Zambian Counselor Learned Advanced Medical Tech in Chongqing

News Information

Chongqing – On May 28, Dr.Muzaza.Nthele, the  Counselor of Health Ministry of Zambia Embassy in China, has completed his 5-day training in Chongqing Haifu Medical for the High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology. This is his second trip to Chongqing. Last year in September, Dr.Muzaza has come with the Ambassador of Zambia and met with the experts of HIFU in Chongqing. He witnessed the non-invasive therapeutic technique that uses non-ionizing ultrasonic waves to heat or ablate tissue and decided to bring it to Zambia to treat the uterine fibroid, a thorny disease for women in his country.

HIFU Surgery uses the focus and penetrability of ultrasound to focus low-intensity ultrasound outside the body onto the lesion in the patient’s body, which instantly generates high temperature at the focal point, causing irreversible coagulation and necrosis of the lesion tissue, without the tissue being damaged. It is a non-invasive treatment that requires no operation, no bleeding, and preserves the tissues and organs and their structural functions.

As a doctor and a medical counselor, Dr. Muzaza’s trip in Chongqing was focusing on  how to use focused ultrasound ablation technology to improve the health care status of African women.“In Zambia, open surgery has a challenge of blood supply. When the fibroids are big, more blood was required for the patients to fit the standard of open surgery and the transfusion for the operation to succeed. Therefore, some patients who either take long to be treated or may be denied the treatment, lack blood. “ Dr.Muzaza said. However, open surgery is widely used in Zambia. Besides the blood supply shortage,  major invasive surgery affects fertility more or less.

He said that a woman in Zambia normally has 4 to 6 children. Women with infertility are often abandoned by their families. Although the situation has improved, no woman is willing to have her uterus amputated because of benign disease. Dr. Muzaza believes that the importing of the HIFU technology will allow doctors in Zambia to do uterine fibroid surgery without the need for blood, nor the competing with other urgent cases. Also since most young women don’t want scars on their bodies, HIFU technology is a better treatment for them.

Chongqing Haifu Medical

Chongqing Haifu Medical began to receive training from international students in 2015 and has trained 105 doctors from Europe, America, Africa, Asia, and other regions so far. According to Xing Ruoxi, a professor at Chongqing Medical University and the international academic leader of Chongqing Haifu Medical, currently, Chongqing Haifu has established more than 60 overseas application centers in 29 countries and regions, including 3 clinical medical centers in South Africa, North Africa, and Nigeria. When Chongqing Haifu spread focused ultrasound ablation surgery to Africa, it provided the entire medical service system and trained African doctors and clinical teams to use this technology to serve patients.
